Katy Perry + Robyn

I went to Katy Perry’s concert here in Raleigh last night and thoroughly enjoyed myself. Her sugary sweet dose of pop might not be for everyone (songs like Peacock definitely made me feel too old to be there), but she is legitimately talented.

I also wanted to mention that Robyn (yes “Show Me Love” Robyn from the 90s) was her opening act, and I felt bad for her. The super young, pop-loving crowd really didn’t vibe with her. She is super talented…I kind of think her Europeanness was lost on the crowd of North Carolinians. I have heard from a NY native that she thought she was bad too, but….I just think people didn’t like her because they couldn’t sing along. DJ Skeet Skeet played all of the club bangers prior to her taking the stage, which led to the crowd being flat and irritated by the time Katy Perry was about come on. It made me sad. I even think Katy kind of addressed it by saying that she didn’t think people in the South were afraid to try new things……

I had a great time. My favorite part was the first few notes of her cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody”. I went berserk. Huge Whitney fan. :) Another song lost on a good percentage of the teeny boppers in the crowd.

So, sorry if you hate KP. I can’t do it. I love her. Foreva.
